Middle School Spirit Week 2019
In the last week of October, all middle-upper school grades come together for a battle. The most creative, the coolest, and the craziest, of all ages. They compete in a series of four days. Historical Moments, Cuisine from Around the World, Video Games, and Color Day. Prepare to be amazed by the presentations made by the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
October 28, 2019, the middle school of Baldwin has taken a trip to the past. We have gone to The Extinction of the Dinosaurs, by 6th grade, The Discovery of the Americas, by 7th grade, and Color TV, by 8th grade. During the 6th grade presentation, Professor Fabiola and Claudia have discovered the Baldwin Excavation Site and found fossils of many different dinosaurs. The archeologists learned that a big meteor hit the Earth and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. Next, the 7th graders took us to the time when Christopher Columbus “found” Puerto Rico and was met with the Native Americans in a strange land. Afterward, the 8th grade presented Color TV. The silver class did this by performing 2 dances, one from the 40s which was in black and white, and the other from the 80s which was colorful and had rollerskates. Finally, we came back to the future and enjoyed the high school presentations.
Around the world, there are many different nations like the U.S, Mexico, France, Japan, China, Italy, and Puerto Rico. They all have unique and extraordinary foods. Which made the idea of Cuisine from Around the world, so on day two of spirit week each grade presented all types of cuisines. The 6th grade showed French cuisine. They opened Les Amis Restaurant showing French appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Later on, everyone sang a 6th-grade version of the Beauty and the Beast classic Be Our Guest. Second on the stage was 7th-grade presenting Japanese cuisine. The 7th graders decided to show sushi, drinks, and the traditional Japanese bento boxes. Next was Italian cuisine with the 8th graders. We all love pizza, right? Well, that is what the 8th grade did! They made a colossal pizza with tomatoes, cheese, flour, and the top chefs in the grade. Au revoir, addio, and さようなら (sayōnara) to day two of spirit week.
Into the great, creative, and virtual world of video games, the middle school went. To see Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft, and Google Chrome’s Steve the Dinosaur. First up, the 6th graders showed us Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. They had all types of items from bananas to shells, to the colorful mystery boxes. The 6th graders had the great Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowser. With this new exciting game, we close the box and open the curtain to the 7th graders. 7th grade did Minecraft with the mobs like zombies, creepers, skeletons, endermen, and the iconic Steve and Alex. Later on, the 8th graders presented a skit of their assignments being due and them having no WiFi. What to do?! Play Steve the dinosaur, with cacti, pretty clouds, pterodactyls, and of course Steve hopping up and down to win the game. Spending all this time playing video games that concludes day three of spirit week.
On the last day of spirit week, we celebrated Color Day. Thursday is the day every grade presents their class shirt. For 6th grade, we had a completely red shirt. On the front was a ring of fire representing the class union and a fire in the back with their class banner. Placed on the back were a sun and a phoenix that show the class’s new beginning. Later on, we had the 7th graders with a deck of cards and a purple hand. The cards show all the different choices the class has in their lives. We all have choices to make with our heart, ears, eyes, and mind. Next up were the 8th graders that chose a rising sun. They had a light silver shirt with a rising sun in the back. The sun shows the class that has changed throughout their years and the class soon going on to high school. After the class shirts are presented the middle and upper school play games. These include musical chairs, the prop game, cup stacking, random acts of kindness, and the most spirit, all of which are worth 100 points. At the end, the 7th-grade won best class shirt, but the winner of spirit week in the middle school was the 6th graders with 7th in second and the 8th graders in 3rd. Together we celebrate our wins and losses and bid goodbye to the spirit week of 2019 and begin preparations for the 2020 sports fest!
