On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, I decided to embrace the challenge of participating in the event “Uniendo Cabezas” hosted by Fundación CAP, where I was to shave my head to raise awareness and stand in solidarity with the people suffering from pediatric cancer. From a young age, I have been passionate about helping others and have always felt empathy for people with diseases, whose lives have been changed as a result of them. At first, I was extremely nervous to shave my head as I had never done an action like this before; it would not only benefit others, but also change my appearance. It was nerve-racking at first, but I felt confident when thinking about the message I was spreading and how people would benefit from my actions. When I left the school, arrived at the Coca-Cola Music Hall, and saw the stage where I would ultimately shave my head, I knew I was ready to commit fully and felt confident once I sat in the chair where I would experience my last moments with long hair. It took around 4 minutes to finish buzzing my hair off, but once I got up and saw all that had been cut, I felt no regrets as I knew it was for a good cause and that my actions were helping others, which is what’s most important. Finally, the experience overall felt liberating as it helped me empathize with people more and made me glad that I was making a change, especially for a good cause such as Fundación CAP.
