The 2026 GRAMMY nominations were presented on the morning of Friday, November 7th, accompanied by a star-studded list of announcers, and who else to lead the pack than Kendrick Lamar, receiving nine nominations following the success of 2024’s GNX, mirroring his triumph at the previous ceremony, taking home both Record and Song of the Year. One thing is clear: no one is like Kendrick Lamar.

Lady Gaga also received a fair share of honors, her little monsters eager to cheer her on as she took home 7 nominations for her return-to-form seventh-studio album, MAYHEM, which opened her up to a world of success, such as headlining Coachella, winning Artist of the Year at the VMAS, and a slew of other recognitions. Now, she is up to win Album of the Year, Song of the Year for “Abracadabra”, and a surprise nomination for her Joker: Folie à Deux promotional record “Harlequin”. As she says, Lady Gaga is the perfect celebrity.
While some of the largest nominees from last year, such as Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish (although she did receive 2 noms), Beyoncé, and, of course, Taylor Swift, are rarely featured in the prominent categories, Sabrina Carpenter is short, sweet, and back for seconds. After taking home two awards at last year’s ceremony, she has received another half-dozen noms this year for her controversial, yet critically acclaimed record, Man’s Best Friend. With multiple hits such as “Manchild” and “Tears”, countless festival performances, scandals, and the classic tongue-in-cheek flair we all know and love, it is no surprise that her perfect pop brew earned her nominations in the top categories, like Album of the Year, Song and Record of the Year, and Pop Vocal Album.
Another top contender is Puerto Rican powerhouse Bad Bunny, who received six nominations in some of the night’s most prestigious categories. Following the success of his January release “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS”, a love letter to his homeland and Puerto Rican culture, Bad Bunny has taken the world by storm, breaking through cultural barriers and spreading awareness like never before. In a world where discrimination and hate seem to be spreading more and more every day, his success is staggering, and it’s clear that he’s set to shine in the upcoming award season.
However, the large acts were not the only artisans to receive high honors. The Best New Artist category, which celebrates smaller or lesser-known acts that broke out and set their own mark on the industry, is one of the most coveted awards in the ceremony’s history. Won by breakout star Chappell Roan at last year’s ceremony, she announced the nominations for one of this year’s most competitive categories. We start strong with Olivia Dean, who shook the world with her enthusiastic and charming records, like “Man I Need”, now opening for past nominee, Sabrina Carpenter, on the final leg of her Short n’ Sweet Tour. Not surprisingly, she is among the highest contenders. Following her, we have KATSEYE, the iconic international girl group, which sparked many cultural moments this year, including their GAP commercial, a record-breaking Lollapalooza set, and various hit songs, including “Gnarly” and “Gabriella”. Another top competitor is Addison Rae, the influencer turned superstar, who has drawn media attention in unexpected ways with her critically acclaimed debut album, Addison. Other contenders include Sombr, Lola Young, and the Marias, who all achieved stardom with songs such as Young’s “Messy” and Sombr’s “Back to Friends”.
No award show is complete without its share of surprises, particularly in the form of snubs, instances when deserving artists, films, series, or art forms receive minimal recognition in nominations or awards, often leaving fans disappointed. The GRAMMYs have garnered a reputation for overlooking popular acts, and this year, notable newcomers have joined the ranks of those left wanting. Among them are stars like Tate McRae, Lorde, Ariana Grande, and Conan Gray, who all released popular and well-received music, such as McRae’s So Close to What, Grande’s extension to her 2024 record Eternal Sunshine: Brighter Days Ahead, and Lorde’s Virgin. Each of these records garnered impressive critical acclaim and resonated with audiences, yet they were overlooked by the Recording Academy, leading to significant fan backlash and disappointment.
With music’s biggest night approaching in a matter of mere months, gracing the Crypto.com Arena on February 2nd, 2026, both artists and fans alike are exhilarated. From the likeness of well-known artists to newcomers, the 2026 GRAMMYs are on track to become one of the most competitive in the ceremony’s history.
